Dates and Deadlines You Need to Know
June 30, 2014
e-Prescribing - Deadline to prevent the 2% penalty for the e-Prescribing Incentive Program in 2015. Physicians who have not successfully e-prescribed 10 times and reported each time with G-Code G8553 on the claim form for Medicare patients by this date will be penalized 2% in 2015. Exceptions: If you are participating in the EHR Incentive Program or you have applied for one of the CMS exemptions.
July 1, 2014:
Meaningful Use - Last day to begin the 90-day reporting period for first-year participants in the 2014 Medicare EHR Incentive Program. A 1% penalty begins Jan. 1, 2015 for physicians who are not meaningful users of certified EHRs.
Oct. 1, 2014:
ICD-10 - All HIPAA-covered entities must implement the new ICD-10 code sets with dates of service, or dates of discharge for inpatients, that occur on or after this date. Covered entities should plan to complete the steps required to implement ICD-10 CM/PCS by this date.
Oct. 1, 2014:
Meaningful Use - Deadline for first-year participants to attest to meaningful use for the 2014 Medicare EHR Incentive Program in order to avoid the 2015 penalty.
Oct. 1, 2014:
Meaningful Use - All physicians participating in the federal Meaningful Use EHR Incentive Program must upgrade their EHR in 2014 to the Stage 2 certified version.
April 15, 2015:
Health Insurance Exchanges - Individual shared responsibility payments due. If patients can afford health insurance and are not exempt but choose not to buy it in 2014, they must pay this penalty fee with their taxes.
